ArtThrob is South Africa's leading contemporary visual arts publication, reporting on the national arts scene and the involvement of South African artists in the international art world.

History

Founded as a one-person site by Sue Williamson in August 1997, ArtThrob has since expanded to many times its original size.


Advertise on ArtThrob

ArtThrob's online advertising package includes the following:

  - one 120 x 120 px button, to appear on the ArtThrob website at all times

  - two banners of 250 x 300 px and 90 x 357 px each, to appear on all pages of the ArtThrob website intermittently

  - one banner of 100 x 540 px to appear on our fortnightly newsletter

ArtThrob has confirmed stats of between 6000-8000 individuals viewing the site per month - 35% of those view it from outside of South Africa.

 

 

Awards

ArtThrob has three-times been a finalist in the Arts & Culture Trust Awards. In 1999 ArtThrob was nominated for the United Nations prize for best cultural website. In 2000 Berlin curator Pat Binder selected the site as an art piece in its own right and included it in an exhibition entitled 'Woven Maze' at the University of Hannover.

In 2013 Anna Stielau won gold in the Review Section of the inaugural Standard Bank Arts Journalist of the Year award for articles written for ArtThrob, while ArtThrob's editor Matthew Blackman won the silver in the same section.
