On Monday the 4th May Peter Doig’s show opened at Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, in the Palazzetto Tito, Venice, curated by Milovan Farronato and Angela Vettese. The exhibition is the artist’s first solo presentation in Italy, and was scheduled to coincide with the opening of the 56th Venice Biennale then next day.
For his exhibition, installed in the beautiful historic rooms of the Palazzetto Tito, the artist presents fourteen works, (six are large paintings), and several intimately scaled works, all of them new and (mostly) being shown for the first time.
The imagery in the new works is diverse, drawing on private and found visual sources. Read more about it in Jackie Wullschlager’s rave review in the FT. http://www.ft.com/cms/s/2/ e0642100-f3dd-11e4-99de- 00144feab7de.html#slide0
