Penelope Umbrico’s TV’s from Craigslist recently on show in ‘Think of Number 6‘ at Point of Order are for sale on Gumtree.
Umbrico scanned Craigslist (a US version of Gumtree) for TVs for sale and appropriated the images. What she discovered was reflections of the camera’s flash, and gently subtly images of the photographer and their environment. These images are often intimate, and provide an inverse of the usual direction of mass media. After each exhibition she sells the first edition of each print online at the price of the original TV.
