Intaglio Process Workshop is an introduction to Drypoint, Hard ground -, Soft ground Etching, Step-bite -, Lift-ground – and Spit-bite Aquatint and Printing Techniques.

BRING TO WORKSHOP
yourself, ideas in the form of drawings and/or photographs and an etchings needle / scribe / dentist tool i.e. instrument with sharp point. Size of copperplate is about 20 x 15 cm.
GO HOME WITH
7 etched plates and at least one print of each and additional prints with chine collé.
ACTIVITIES for Intaglio Process
Session one, Sat 27 Feb
What is intaglio? Demonstration of drypoint and printing of plate. And, participants each make a drypoint.
Session two, Sat 5 March
Demonstration of hard ground etching and continue to teach the printing of a plate. And, participants each make a hard ground etching.
Session three, Sat 12 March
Demonstration of soft ground etching and continue to teach the printing of a plate. And, participants each make a soft ground etching.
Session four, Sat 19 March
Demonstration of step-biting aquatint and continue to teach the printing of a plate. And, participants each make a step-biting aquatint.
Session five, Sat 2 April
Demonstration of lift-ground aquatint and continue to teach the printing of a plate. And, participants each make a lift-ground aquatint.
Session six, Sat 9 April
Demonstration of spit-bite aquatint and continue to teach the printing of a plate. And, participants each make a spit-bite aquatint.
Session seven, Sat 16 April
Participants each make a print of combined techniques and needs to show printing of plate skills.
Session eight, Sat 23 April
Demonstration of chine collé and participants continue to print from existing plates with chine collé.
INSTRUCTOR Zhané Warren
Zhané Warren is the founder/owner and director of Warren Editions, and is the head printer on many of the projects at Warren Editions. She specialises in the intaglio process.
SUPPORTING INSTRUCTORS Roxy Kaczmarek & Morné Visagie
Roxy Kaczmarek began her internship at Warren Editions in February 2013 after obtaining a degree in Fine Art at the Michaelis School of Fine Art in 2012, majoring in Printmaking. The internship led to part time work as an assistant printer at Warren Editions. Following this, Kaczmarek completed internships at the Amsterdam’s Grafisch Atelier, Netherlands and the London Print Studio, United Kingdom. Kaczmarek has been working as a printmaker and the Studio Manager at Warren Editions since October 2013.
Morné Visagie is a Cape Town based artist and printmaker. Visagie graduated with a degree in Fine Art from Michaelis School of Fine Art in 2011. His passion for print is clearly evident in the work he produces as a practicing artist, signed with Whatiftheworld Gallery. Visagie started out at Warren Editions as an intern in 2011 and after completing two internships, he continued working part time with the team. Today Visagie works full time at Warren Editions as the Project Co-ordinator for a collaborative project with Yellowwoods Art. The collaboration specialises in the creation of large scale relief works.
