Live Architecture: The 55 Minute Hour

A story by Artthrob on the 13th of February 2016. This should take you < 1 minute to read.

‘Live Architecture: the 55 Minute Hour’ is the work of Off Plan International, a curatorial collective featuring Mary Corrigall, Amy Watson, and Nelisiwe Xaba. This site-specific programme is set in the vacated Trubok clothing factory in Salt River, that will soon be subject to gentrification, as has been the fate of many of the buildings in the area. ‘Live Architecture: the 55 Minute Hour’ is designed to address regulated factory life and the politics of labour that the regeneration of buildings inevitably erases. The interdisciplinary programme brings together the work of sound and performance artists, fashion designers and artists using dress as a mode of expression, to create an experimental and immersive experience encouraging audiences to interrogate the site outside of its everyday use.

Participating Artists: Igshaan Adams, Zyma Amien, Bernardo Guiamba, Jenevieve Lyons, Gerald Machona, Francesco Nassimbeni and Richard De Jager, Buhlebezwe Siwani and James Webb.

Including a new publication by architect Ilze Wolff
