LKB/G gallery in Hamburg (Germany) presents the upcoming exhibition ‘Dear History: It’s Not Me, It’s You’ featuring work by Buhlebezwe Siwani, Grace Cross and Thania Petersen. This three-woman exhibition explores art as a powerful tool for reclaiming South Africa’s complex heritage, historical narratives and aesthetic imagery. Works are presented from a distinctly female perspective in an attempt to break, both physically and conceptually, from the loveless marriage with colonial past and patriarchal present.
Excavating historic events and deeply subjective experiences, the exhibition curated by Candice Allison aims to reinsert the lost chapters, forgotten heroes and unsung heroines of history that were erased by the colonial sneer.
Thania Petersen and Buhlebezwe Siwani as well as the curator Candice Allison will attend in the vernissage and also take part in an artist talk the day before.
