Jo’burg people are invited to celebrate the closing of the iconic Doll House roadhouse with an outdoor photography exhibition and party, under the stars.
NIGHT by ROADHOUSE is the next in a series of art parties that happen at South African roadhouses with the intention of bringing the best of local and international photography to a wide, non gallery-going audience. More than that, we wish to celebrate art with good music played by nice DJs, with good old-fashioned roadhouse food and drink.
The initiative, started by photographer Marc Shoul and arts writer Matthew Krouse, is not for profit. The great thing about our exhibitions is that attendance is free, art is shown and the roadhouse venues we choose are a unique aspect of a fading social culture.
Our next fabulous event will take place on Saturday, 26 August 2017, from 6 pm till late and will include a selection of photographs and video art from South Africa, USA, Switzerland, Italy and the UK.
Titled NIGHT (all works are photographed at night), it presents a carefully curated selection of images that reflect, and reflect on, the after-hours. Night is a time of fun, dread, dreams, prayers and nightmares…
Since the Doll House has been such a part of the Jo’burg nighttime subculture, and the fact of its closing is on everyone’s lips, we at the ROADHOUSE initiative thought that our theme of NIGHT would match perfectly with the atmosphere of the place. The Doll House closing bash will hopefully be remembered for years to come.
In order to facilitate the event we have joined online crowd funding and donations will assist in enabling us to hire high-end audiovisual equipment, project videos, have a sound system with DJs and perfect lighting for a night of fun.
