Lady Skollie wins Standard Bank Young Artist Award

ArtThrob extends a huge congratulations to Lady Skollie, the winner of this year’s Standard Bank Young Artist Award in Visual Art. Another round of applause is due to the other recipients of the Young Artist Awards: Sylvester Thamsanqa “Thami” Majela (Dance), Msaki (Music), Koleka Putuma (Poetry), Linda Sikhakane (Jazz), Billy Langa and Mahlatsi Mokgonyana (Theatre). Recipients of the award receive a cash prize as well as substantial financial backing for exhibiting at the National Arts Festival.

Inga Somdyala wins MTN x UJ New Contemporaries Award

Inga Somdyala has been announced as the winner of the overall Artist Award at the inaugural MTN X UJ New Contemporary Awards on 25 November, while Nkule Mabaso’s curatorial excellence was acknowledged with the Legacy Panel Special Award. Somdyala’s award-winning work – alongside finalists Natalie Paneng, Callan Grecia and Thandiwe Msebenzi – is on view now at the UJ Art Gallery.
