James Webb
'thesexworks'

'thesexworks' is a new, nationwide sound installation by James Webb. Like a telephone sex-line, Webb's six audio works investigating eroticism and voyeurism through sound can be experienced by phoning 083 910 1235. A seventh option on the phone line allows listeners to leave their own message. The installation runs throughout November 2001.

Invitations to call the line have been left in the lobbies and bathrooms of swanky hotels, and in public phone booths. Advertisements can be seen in the classified columns of national newspapers and local sex-related magazines.

To hear the work you can dial 083 910 1235 or click on the titles of the pieces on the left. It is strongly recommended that you wear an eye mask and closed-ear headphones when listening to these sound artworks.

Catalogues, containing a CD of the work and essays, are available through kissy_suzuki@yahoo.com.

Webb, a member of Public Eye, co-curated 'YDETAG' at the South African National Gallery, has collaborated with Holger Czukay from Can, attended master classes given by Brian Eno and has exhibited his sound art in South Africa and abroad on a number of group shows.

This exhibition was made possible with the generous support of www.voiceport.com.
