VANSA Western Cape launch
The newly formed visual artists' organisation, the Visual Arts Network of South Africa (VANSA) launches in the Western Cape (see last week's news story on the subject). Broadly VANSA will function as an organisation to lobby corporate, city and state structures on behalf of the visual arts and aims also to provide better access to tools, technology and skills needed by artists. VANSA intends to set up critical platforms to debate matters of interest to artists. All visual artists, arts organisations and businesses will be eligible to join.
Membership is free until the national launch later this year after which a fee will be levied to cover the costs of producing and sending out a regular newsletter to members, and of planning events. The launch forms part of the Cape Town Festival programme and a regional committee will be elected then.
Opening 5.30 - 8pm, Thursday March 27
The Centre for the Book, Queen Victoria Street, Gardens, Cape Town
