SASOL to reward an art instruction institution and artists
by Kresta Tyler Johnson

This year, SASOL has announced that the Sasol New Signatures competition will support not only individual artists, but will also acknowledge the achievements and efforts of art instruction institutions. The competition that began last year culminates in an exhibition at the Pretoria Art Museum with one final winner being selected as well as a Judges' Choice and other acknowledgements.

The support of burgeoning artists is crucial to the future of the arts in South Africa, but all too often the institutions that fostered their creativity are forgotten. Sasol hopes to remedy this by turning some attention to the foundation of artists' learning by awarding a prize of R5 000 to the art instruction institution that has the most number of entries deemed to be of a high standard.

A panel of judges will make the final selections throughout the beginning of July and the exhibition will again be held at the Pretoria Art Museum from July 22 to August 19, 2004.
