New deputy needed for the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown
by Kresta Tyler Johnson

The prestigious National Arts Festival in Grahamstown is looking for a qualified candidate to take the helm as Deputy Festival Director. On the heels of a successful 30th anniversary, the Director and Deputy Director hold positions of utmost importance in ensuring the continued prosperity of the festival.

The individual required will need diplomatic skills extraordinaire to coordinate government funding and arts institutions to ensure a harmonious gala in July. This is no mean feat, as the past year has witnessed the dissolution of the NAC, and dramatic funding cuts in the arts, even while Dr. Pallo Jordan opened the 2004 festival and assured its great success and importance.

To negotiate between government desires and those of the arts, and to maintain the high quality of the festival will demand much of an individual but is likely to prove rewarding.

Interested candidates should contact Gilly Hemphill at grcomm@mweb.co.za and CVs must be submitted by February 18.
