Khayelitsha - "New Home"

In December, ArtThrob featured international award winning screensavers on the project page. Turning our focus on South Africa, for February 2001 we present two lively screensaverscreated in Flash by Pretoria artist Abrie Fourie, from photographs taken in two very different parts of the world - Khayelitsha, the black township near Cape Town - and New York

MTN Art Institute director Ronel Kellner has this to say about Fourie's work:

In the screensavers Cloud andSamaria the artist enacts another creation, a "New Home", divinely inspired but modelled through man. As creator and integral participator, the lens of Fourie's camera broods across the surface. Each frame freezes a moment and captures images which when manipulated are imbued with form and engrafted with new meaning. In the Divine mind, naming and meaning preceded form. In this re-creation metaphors and meaning predestine its form.

Note: As we go live, the screensavers are only usable on PC computers - MAC images will follow in the next few days.
