Chikin Biznis, Nthsaveni wa Luruli, 1998, South Africa
Sophisticated, honest and at times touching, this film follows the fortune and blunders of the streetwise Bra Sipho, who after "twenty years of sophisticated slavery" for a Stock Exchange listed company, retired to set up a lucrative chicken business ...

Night on Earth, Jim Jarmusch, 1991, USA
A hip and hilarious comedy. The action takes place in five cities in one night, with a brilliant cast of cabbies and customers. The stories, stretching from sunset to sunrise, range form the ridiculous to the sublime, punctuated by a haunting theme song by Tom Waits. Jarmusch's most accessible movie, and a film to cherish.

La vie est belle, Mweze Ngongura, 1986, Democratic Republic of Congo
The trials and the tribulations of two men, a wealthy employer and his servant, both in love with the same woman. Kourou (played by Papa Wemba), a rural boy who wants to be musician, and his employer compete, thus the stage is set for a comedy of errors in the two men's quest to win the hand of the beautiful Kabibi.

Dobermann, Jan Kounen, 1997, France
Ruthless, cunning and sexy, the Dobermann is a class-A criminal for the 21st century. Along with his stunning partner, Nat the Gypsy, the Dobermann leads a crazy gang of bank robbers into one of the most daring heists of all time. Fearless, insane and packing some of the most awesomely hi-tech weaponry ever seen, Dobermann and his gang are thirsty for action.

Basquiat, Julian Schabel, 1996, USA
In 1981, Jean-Michel Basquiat became the darling of New York's art critics. This film gives a dramatised account of his life of sex, drugs and rock 'n roll which led to his demise. The film features music by The Pogues, Iggy Pop, Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mel and David Bowie.

Museum Africa
Slam, Marc Levin, 1998, USA

Dodge City is a place where only the toughest survive and the only way out is prison or death. Ray Joshua spends his time in jail developing his talents for street poetry, rap and hip hop which enables him to survive and provide inspiration for those around him...
