BAT Centre's Artists in Action Residency
The BAT Centre's Artists in Action Residency programme is expanding this year to include a longer stay (now eight months instead of six) and greater depth. Funded by the Durban Metro Department of Economic Affairs, Artists in Action Residency programme provides valuable theoretical and practical training for artists to enable them to gain the requisite skills to make a living from their work. Normally directed towards emerging artists, the programme now caters for those artists working at a more advanced level within the profession.
In the visual arts programme, the offered skills include: drawing, silk-screening, painting, woodcut printing, sign-writing and ceramic-making. The programme admits a maximum of twenty students. The students will be awarded certificates for the successful completion of the BAT Centre in Action Residency Programme.
Artists over the age of eighteen interested in participating in the programme must present a portfolio of ten artworks. Application forms are available from the BAT Centre Office, 45 Maritime Place, Small Craft Harbour, (off Victoria Embankment). Enquiries may be directed to Njabulo Hlongwane on (031) 3320451. Application deadline is January 30. The programme commences February 10.
The BAT Centre is also inviting artists to submit proposals for exhibitions for 2003.
