New art education project launched at the DAG
The Durban Art Gallery has launched a new project for Grades 8-12 to further art education in the province. A coloured chart with pictures of 21 works from the permanent collection of the DAG will be accompanied by questions about each work to provoke discussion for the learner and teacher. These 'Artcharts' will be given free of charge to teachers and learners in conjunction with a visit to the gallery.
This project has been totally sponsored by the Unilever Foundation in an attempt to encourage education initiatives in the KZN region and to support the Durban Art Gallery's public programmes. Zinhle Nkosi from Unilever handed over the sponsorship cheque to Marianne Meijer, chairperson of the Friends, at a function at the DAG. 'Artchart' was conceived by Bren Brophy, Brigitte Maingard and Jenny Stretton.
