ACT Awards 2003 Open for Entries
The Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) has opened entries for the ACT Awards 2003. These annual awards celebrate and recognise those who play an integral role in the development and promotion of arts, culture and creativity in South Africa. Unlike previous years, entry to this year's awards does not require a third party nomination, and projects or individuals may enter themselves.
There are five categories: arts and culture administrator of the year; arts and culture journalist of the year; media of the year in support of arts & culture (for both internet and print, and radio and television); arts and culture publicist of the year; cultural development project of the year; and organisation of the year in support of developmental arts and culture projects.
The Awards will be presented at a gala event in Johannesburg on September 18. This date has been chosen so that the awards are linked to the celebration of Heritage Day, one week later. Last year's arts and culture journalist of the year, the self-trained writer Themba ka Mathe, contributes his first review to ArtThrob, reviewing 'Art and Urbanisation' at the Warren Siebrits gallery.
For detailed information on how to enter, email ACT at info@act.org.za or visit the ACT website at www.act.org.za. The closing date for submissions is 25 July 2003.
