New Exhibition Space in Pretoria
Outlet is a new exhibition space in Pretoria, and is
the brainchild of Pretoria artist, Abrie Fourie. The
venue was conceived as a conceptual space that will
promote artistic collaboration and interaction in
Pretoria. Challenging traditional notions of
exhibition spaces, Outlet is an unpretentious
two-metre square room ala 'White Cube/ Palais de
Tokyo'. It is situated on the Pretoria Technikon's
Arts Campus, and will serve as a nucleus or token
homebase for the generation, circulation, and
realisation of 'local, national and international
artistic endeavours/enterprises'.
Outlet's first project will be a prototype for the
spirit of collaboration envisioned. This will be a
work in progress, taking shape over the next few
months, gradually documenting in photographs, the
comings and goings of visitors and guests. As such,
their presence and participation in the project will
be captured as part of the space's evolving and
unfolding history. The proposed result: an exhibition
of photographs tracing this virtual gathering. This
will in effect introduce Outlet, begin the networking
process, and promote the collective ideal that is at
the heart of Outlet.
