24/7 at the JAG

June sees City and Suburban raconteur, Christian Nerf, take over the Johannesburg Art Gallery (JAG) for a period of seven weeks. '24.7' is 24-hour residency programme at the JAG that will offer artists an opportunity to work in the gallery space for a determined period.

The idea traces its genesis back to a 24-hour residency Nerf initiated at his City+Suburban studio space on Commissioner street, situated in the south eastern precincts of Johannesburg's inner city, oddly known as City and Suburban.

The '24.7' studio will feature seven chapters of experimentation: new media (electronic art, digital, interactive physical computing); traditional practice (painting, sculpture and drawing); fashion (image manufacturing, haute couture); audio (analogue experiments, dj's, found sound); conceptual (installation, advertising); lens-based media (photo, documentary, motion picture, video art) public art (Intervention, graffiti, performance) with an exhibition subsequently displaying evidence.

There are hints of the trinity session's methodology in Nerf's '24.7' residency idea, particularly in the way it focuses on process, but doubtlessly this residency programme will unearth its own interesting dynamics as visual artists exchange baton's with commercial artists during some of the many proposed one-day residencies scheduled to take place.

Interested parties can contact Christian Nerf on (072) 375 9599 for further details on how to participate.
