ACT is accepting proposals

The Arts and Culture Trust (ACT) is inviting South African arts, culture and heritage developmental projects involved in the ongoing upliftment of communities through the arts to apply for funding assistance.

Founded in 1994 by the Ministry of Arts and Culture, the Royal Netherlands Embassy, Nedbank, Sun International and Vodacom Foundation, ACT operates under the mandate of providing funding for the sustainable development and growth of arts, culture and heritage in the country.

Since it inception, ACT has provided a consistent and sustainable source of funding for the arts. Close to R1 million was given in cash grants to selected projects and bursaries in the last funding cycle of the Trust, and covered projects across the broad scope of artistic endeavour, including film, music, dance, craft, literature and visual art.

The assessment criteria for funding is slightly different than in previous years, and is aiming to fund projects that emphasise job creation; creative and management skills; cultural diversity, awareness and understanding; and cultural tourism and marketing.

Interested parties are directed to the ACT website, www.act.org.za, for further information on the funding criteria as well as ACT, and application forms. The closing date for applications is May 23, and the results of successful applications will be announced on June 23.
