Artists' Studio Spaces Now Available To Rent In Durban
A new artist's studio space and gallery is opening up in Durban. The project of Karen Bradtke, a Masters student in Fine Art at the Durban Institute of Technology, 'artSPACE durban' was conceived to fill a perceived gap for artists in Durban, which suffers a paucity of alternative spaces. Bradkte also hopes to encourage the increasing number of visiting international artists to stay over in Durban by providing easy access to working space.
Housed in the central industrial area of Umgeni the warehouse has a view of the sea and is light and airy. The top floor is dedicated to eight 20 square metre studio spaces that are open plan with access to toilets, a shower and kitchenette.
Adjacent to the studios on the floor below are two gallery spaces also available for hire. 'artSPACE durban' provides a space where artists can meet, relax, read, and re- energize.
