NAC funding delayed
Artists awaiting news of funding results have expressed outrage with the National Arts Council (NAC) after it recently postponed announcing these results. Applicants, all of whom timeously completed their funding applications, had been expecting an announcement to be made by April 30.
In a statement to the press, the NAC said: "Although we would have wished to communicate with the Arts community sooner, we cannot release any results pending approval and ratification by the Board of the National Arts Council."
At present the NAC has not made a firm commitment as to when the outstanding announcement might be expected. The chief reason for this delay is cited as the NAC's failure to appoint a new board. Bureaucratic regulations also prevent the old board from exercising any decision-making powers as an extended term of office has not been mandated.
In the interim artists have had to put project plans on hold until the bureaucratic conundrum is resolved and funding results agreed upon.
