George Khumalo's 'Living on a Construction Site' travels to Brussels
Cascoland, an art event in the centre of Johannesburg, took place in the month of March. Billed as 'a unique and moving experience of the inner city', the event aimed to achieve the creative interaction of members of the public, giving them a chance to utilise and share skills and ideas. One of the more emotionally charged features of this event was the performance of Living on a Construction Site. This was the final work choreographed by George Khumalo before his untimely death in December 2006.
Cascoland, a collective of artists mostly from Holland, last year visited Cape Town where they ran a project in New Crossroads. From Jo'Burg, Khumalo's work travels to Brussels, the city where he was trained in dance, and where he lived for six years. At the time of going to press the work was due to be performed at the prestigious PART school of dance, the institution where Khumalo trained.
