Mlu Zondi nominated for MEC Award

Durban artist Mlu Zondi, recipient of the MTN New Contemporaries Award 2006, has been nominated for a Gauteng MEC Award in the category Most Outstanding Presentation of an Original Contemporary Work for his performance piece Silhouette. The awards will take place on March 17 at Wits Downstairs, in Johannesburg.
Zondi hails from Durban and is a graduate of the Durban Institute of Technology where he obtained a Diploma in Drama and performance studies. In 2001 he started creating experimental work and developed his interest in installation performances. in 2004 Zondi took part in the KZNSA's Young Artist Project (YAP). He has participated in numerous performance collaborations and projects including several 'Red Eye' art events, and numerous site-specific performances including Republic. He also presented work for the Lausanne Dance Festival following a two-month residency in Switzerland during 2002.
