National Arts Council of South Africa Announces the Outcome of the Second Funding Session for 2008
The National Arts Council (NAC) has announced the successful applicants for general grant funding as part of the second funding session for 2008 which closed on August 15.
The NAC invites applications for funding from individuals, community groups, organisations and institutions in the disciplines of Music, Theatre, Dance, Multi-discipline, Craft, Visual Arts and Literature. The types of project eligible for funding in the Visual Arts field include the creation of new art works, exhibitions, touring exhibitions, visual arts catalogues, research and documentation, art teaching at a community level, workshops and residencies. Individuals may apply for post-graduate bursary funding, whilst Institutions may apply for bursary assistance on behalf of their undergraduate students.
Successful applicants in the field of Visual Arts, for this cycle, include Fordsburg Artist's Studios (The Bag Factory), Fritha Langerman, Jeanette Unite, Lien Botha, Mandla Mabila, Marcus Neustetter, Natasha Christopher, Paul Emmanuel, Philani E Mhlungu, Thanya Art Studio, Titus Thabiso Matiyane and Underpressure Agency.
Bursary funding was allotted to Artist Proof Studios, Ayanda Sitole, Beth Armstrong, Bhavisha Panchia, Gordon Froud, Johan Meyer, Londiwe Nzimande, Mkhanyisi Nxoko, Surprise Khoza, Suzanne Du Preez, The Design School Southern Africa, The Ruth Prowse School Of Art, Tshwane University of Technology, Unathi Feni, University of Witwatersrand,Vaal University of Technology, and Walter Sisulu University amongst others.

In other NAC news, the institution invites applications for three year company funding from registered organisations, groups and companies active in the disciplines of Music, Theatre, Dance, Multi-discipline, Craft, Visual Arts and Literature. The deadline for these applications is February 13 and the call is in addition to the standard first funding cycle of 2009. The outcomes of the call will be available from March 6, 2009. The call for proposals for the first cycle of 2009 whereby individuals and organisations can request funding for projects and bursaries is also posted on the NAC website: http://www.nac.org.za/Pdf/Call09012009.jpg. The closing date for this cycle is also February 13, but, the outcome will only be available May 31, 2009.
