'Assume Relaxed Position'
Marc Pradervand at Erdmann ContemporaryPhotographer turned painter, Marc Pradervand has lived in the Eastern Cape his whole life; it is where he was born, schooled, studied and now lives and works. It is therefore not surprising that he acknowledges three artists as his main influence and inspiration, all originally from the Eastern Cape, Walter Battiss, Norman Catherine and Douglas Sapeta.
Their influence is deeply established in Pradervand’s style. Newspaper articles and topical issues provide the primary content for many of Pradervand’s paintings. The media frenzy around the Oscar Pistorius case inspired several works, including, ‘Suck my Glock’. But he agrees that it is the slow pace of a rural lifestyle that affords the luxury of unhurried conversations, the re - telling of tragic, long and true stories which are often stranger than fiction. Those are his favourite paintings.
