![]() The Biennale website - which finally got its act together and now gives out information - albeit in rather a dry manner - on the major shows, lists of artists, etc. Don't look here for big, beautiful visuals or crisp, concise information - e.g. 'It (the Alternating Currents exhibition) will equally address the unrelenting movements, flows, inter-penetrations and reterritorialisations of populations and cultural practices within multiple global positions, distinguishing between the surface effects of mass media and the significance of local practices outside the domain of Western artists and philosophical paradigms.' So that's what all the artists were doing while they were mucking about in their studios, making work. |

http://http://www.southafrica.co.za/saar Apologies to the South African Art Resource website - last month Artthrob got the last part of this address wrong, and thus deprived surfers of the opportunity to visit this interesting site, with information on the printmaking activities of such artists as Jeremy Wafer, Willem Boshoff and William Kentridge. |

Unmistakably the home page of Gauteng artist Norman Catherine, populated with the usual wild crew of bandaged mutants and brightly coloured scarred and razor-toothed denizens of Catherine-land, barely contained in various paintings, sculptures, and prints. The page also tells you a little about the artist, and has been designed with the usual Catherine flair. |

'Welcome to my joint', starts Olu Oguibe's home page. 'From here you may zip into my art history class or my Orchid Blossom Poetry Page or read my recently published articles. If, on the other hand, you would like to know more about me and the things I get up to, see my art or know my favourite pin-ups, please feel free'. Nigerian Dr Olu Oguibe, Conference Organiser of the Biennale, is the art historian from the University of South Florida whose recent essay on contemporary African women artists has stirred up so much controversy. Entitled 'Beyond Visual Pleasures', the essay is to be found on this site. | |
