It is not often in this country that a major artist shows completely different bodies of work in two important venues simultaneously, but Penny Siopis can currently be seen both at the Goodman and at the Gertrude Posel. At the Goodman, in a new series of paintings entitled Pinky-Pinky, Siopis uses forms of extreme simplicity combined with collage to investigate the mythical character Pinky-Pinky
, while at the Gertrude Posel, 'Sympathetic Magic' explores the relationship between biography, memory and history through the richly detailed painting and installation which have concerned Siopis for the past decade.
Documenta 11 has closed its doors, after pulling in the largest audience in the history of the event. For a statistical overview, see News, while for some personal highlights, check the editor's diary.
