WEBSITE OF THE MONTH

www.creativebase.com

From the publishers of ZOO, the renowned arts quarterly, the UK site creativebase.com is a gold mine of information and inspiration for globe-trotting arty professionals. It encompasses art, architecture, advertising, design, new media, moving image, photography and publishing, the philosophy being that creative disciplines do not exist independently of each other. Take a squizz at the front page for some idea of the site's impressive strategic alliances: iMovies are commissioned and webcast in conjunction with Apple. Corel sponsors a showcase of interviews (graphic designer David Carson; iD editor-in-chief Terry Jones). Iomega cohosts competitions for screensavers and web design, while Adobe presents the New Media Design Showcase. Click through to the art section to watch webcam broadcasts from London galleries (currently including light installations by Dan Flavin at the Serpentine and Parkett multiples at Whitechapel) or peruse the amazing range of covetable books, videos, magazines and multiples in the art store.

Apart from screensavers, wallpaper, webcasts and other eye candy, creativebase is strong on resources and directory listings. Use its "finders" to search for paper, images, illustrations - you can even have a font identified for free. Membership offers access to an online research centre based on a question and answer approach, with creativebase's experts respnding to queries within 24 hours. (Example of a recent question: "Who shot the latest DKNY ads?") Considering the rand: pound exchange rate, we probably can't afford it - but there's enough material freely accessible to take your mind out for a spin.
