New art gallery in Cape Towns

Joshua Rossouw, owner of Gallery Number 10 and The Fisherman's Gallery in Hermanus, has decided to open a gallery in Cape Town. He brings with him an interesting basket of gallery artists, whose style is described as "modern contemporary."

Tay Dall has recently had a very successful exhibition at the Woolff Gallery in London, and will soon be doing a show in New York as well. Cobus van der Walt has achieved a loyal following for breaking new ground by applying contemporary techniques to traditional themes. His use of vast unframed canvasses to capture the vibrancy of the African veld, is said to be "extremely powerful". A.S. de Lange's abstract works are currently much sought after in the American and European market. Newcomer Hugo Maritz is known for his cubist yet free spirited style of painting. Richard Scott paints minimalist seascapes and figures that are "naïve meets pop".

The Rossouw Gallery, which will be situated on Portswood Road will open on September 5. The area is already home to The African Art Factory, The Everard Read Gallery and Die Kunskamer.
