Hot Websites

http://kulturbox.de/univers/

Undoubtedly the best website of this month is this one, curated by Argentinian artist Pat Binder in collaboration with Berlin curator Gerhard Haupt. The basic premise of the site is to consider the international art world from the point of view of the so-called periphery - Latin America, Asia and Africa. For instance, there is an excellent analysis of Documenta X, with particular emphasis on the artists from the above mentioned continents. Anyone who has struggled to extract any actual pictures of art from the Documenta site at http://www.documenta.de will appreciate this one. There are also links to other international shows around the world.

Not really an art site though there is a gallery - but a Christmas present for all those who are into cool graphics and hot arguments. Artforum magazine describes it this way: 'riotgrrl stands out for its beautiful contradictions - at once sexy and angry, random and well organised, serious and sassy'.

http://www.aica.co.za

The official site of the 2nd Johannesburg Biennale - though a search of the site did not turn up any information about the imminent closure of the Johannesburg venues. One would have thought the website would have been an ideal platform for rallying international support.

Acommercial site specialising in prints by some of South Africa's printmakers, including William Kentridge, Jeremy Wafer and Willem Boshoff.

  http://www.buy-africa.com/norman

Unmistakably the home page of Gauteng artist Norman Catherine, populated with the usual wild crew of bandaged mutants and brightly coloured scarred and razor-toothed denizens of Catherine-land, barely contained in various paintings, sculptures, and prints. The page also tells you a little about the artist, and has been designed with the usual Catherine flair.
