Last week: Well, it wouldn't be the FNB Vitas unless a new controversy was set up, would it. In an opinion piece in News, one of the judges, Virginia MacKenny, wonders whether it is appropriate for other artistic skills such as curatorship to have come into the reckoning of which artists should be the finalists. Should it not purely and simply be artistic excellence? What do you think? Email us.

Choose one:

The Vitas should be judged on artistic excellence alone

All round artistic engagement should be considered

There is little doubt that the international profile of artists from South Africa is on the up and up. Just check international listings. This week, new listings include Mozambique, Brussels and New York - and next week, a listing will appear for a major show for Candice Breitz in Linz, Austria.
