'Adding Subtractions'

Unknown Artist at Bag Factory Artists Studios

A group show featuring a veritable ‘who’s who’ of South African contemporary art opens under the title ‘Adding Subtractions’ at the Bag Factory this month. Curated by Daniella Géo, the show focuses on artists for whom found footage, assemblage, collage, series, sequencing, weaving and sampling are key to ‘gathering history’s fragments’. Artists such as Roger Ballen, Paul Emmanuel, David Goldblatt, William Kentridge, David Koloane, Bronwyn Lace, Sam Nhlengethwa and Emeka Okereke show.  The exhibition opens with a performance by Dinkies Sithole entitled 'Red Carpet' at 5:30pm, which begins in front of Museum Africa and concludes at The Bag Factory.  The exhibition is sponsored by the National Arts Council of South Africa and the Ford Foundation, and is supported by The Flemish Government, the Prince Claus Fund for Culture and Development, the Goethe Institute, Institut Français d'Afrique du Sud and the Embassy of France in South Africa.
