'Look at me: I’m Black and White'
Mbongeni Buthelezi at ArtSpaceArtspace hosts Mbongeni Buthelezi solo exhibition titled 'Look at me: I’m Black and White'. Acclaimed journalist and radio personality, Karabo Kgoleng, will open the exhibition.
In this exhibition Buthelezi comments on the fact that certain racial groups are still confined in certain geographical areas, even though we are nearing the 20-year benchmark of a democratic South Africa. The apartheid era was characterized by systematic segregation of different racial groups in South Africa. Today, these physical gaps between the former white city and the former black townships remain all too evident, and the spatial inequities of apartheid endure. Buthelezi uses the township, Kliptown, as inspiration for this exhibition and allows the audience a glimpse into one of the many spatial constrictions left behind by the apartheid era.
