In the Giardini, the Pavilions that I found strongest were the Danish and Belgian, as did most people it seems so there are already several images posted of these out there. Okwui Enwezor’s ‘All The Worlds Future’s’ continues in the Central, or Italian Pavilion which features a strong installation of Marlene Dumas titled Skulls, a series of 36 small paintings, (fit to force George Baselitz to eat his infamous words upside down, with his macho installation of awful, lame, repetitive paintings at he end of the Arsenale), some curious paintings by Victor Man and two classic Kerry James Marshall paintings, along with a powerful installation of large scale screened canvases by Glenn Ligon, ending with an inspired, perfectly placed banner by Jeremy Deller, You Have The Day Off.
Jeremy Deller, ‘Hello, Today you have day off’ 2013 , Banner made by Ed Hall. The phrase was recently sent as a text message to a zero hours worker telling him that his labour would not be required that day.
