After a two year postponement the trial of Zwelethu Mthethwa has gone into its second week. Mthethwa is accused of having beaten to death the 23-year-old sex worker, Nokuphila Kumalo, in 2013. The trial has to date seen experts discussing the relevance of the CCTV footage that allegedly captured Mthethwa getting out of his Porsche and kicking Kumalo. Mthethwa’s lawyer, William Booth, has called into question the veracity and the admissibility of the footage.
Yesterday, according to Independent Newspapers, a surveillance camera specialist Nathan Bearman testified that it was impossible to manipulate the video footage, and that new information could not be copied onto the hard drive. The trial continues today when a pathologist is expected to take the stand.
