The Financial Times and Oppenheimer Funds are holding their second annual Emerging Voices Awards – a global initiative designed to recognise artistic talent in fiction literature, film-making, and art across more than 100 emerging market nations. The category winners will be brought to NY and announced at an awards gala on September 26, 2016 at the New York Public Library in New York City.
This year’s category for Africa and the Middle East includes, but is not limited to: painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, photography, printmaking, and mixed media. The winner will receive a $40,000 award, and two runners-up per category will receive $5,000 and a trip to New York.
The shortlists have just been announced, and the following applicants have made it onto the Africa and the Middle East shortlist:
• Noor Abuarafeh, Jordan
• Syowia Kyambi, Kenya
• Gareth Nyandoro, Zimbabwe
The shortlist was chosen from more than 797 entries from 64 emerging-market countries.
