“Curating this special project for the FNB JoburgArtFair is both a personal pleasure and a professional honour. Johannesburg is for me one of the world’s great cities, historically rich and culturally vibrant. My own introduction to Joburg several years ago came in particular through so many of the city’s artists generously allowing me to spend time in their studios, in their neighbourhoods and in their homes. Experiencing the world through the eyes of the artist is to be celebrated. As the art fair marks its 10th anniversary, I wish to acknowledge artists in South Africa for their perspectives on recent history and their commitment to place-making.”
