Public days 21 – 23 February

ArtThrob is once again returning to the Investec Cape Town Art Fair, where this year’s theme embraces the idea of play — described by fair director Laura Vincenti as ‘creativity, curiosity, and action.’

We are excited to launch a new collection of prints by Bonolo Kavula, whose work exemplifies a powerful relationship between process, material and meaning. Over the years, Kavula has pushed boundaries across mediums, from printmaking to drawing and performance. With a unique language (often shaped by dots, lines and a meditative process of repetition), she creates meaning through deconstruction and reconstruction.

In addition to Kavula’s works, our booth will feature artists Brett Seiler, Ed Young, Kemang Wa Lehulere, Sue Williamson, William Kentridge, Turiya Magadlela and Zander Blom — all of whom expand our understanding of mark making through form and content.

A highlight for us this year is celebrating ArtThrob founder Sue Williamson, whose significant retrospective ‘There’s Something I Must Tell You’ opens at Iziko South African National Gallery on 22nd of February. Curated by Andrew Lamprecht and spanning five decades of Williamson’s career, the exhibition highlights her impact on both the local and international art ecosystems. Through her multimedia installations and photography, Williamson continues to address themes of apartheid, memory, and identity. ‘There’s Something I Must Tell You’  honours her remarkable career but also offers a reflection on her lasting influence in shaping conversations around memory and remembrance.
