With the help of our long-term partners Spier, who supported our recent renovation, as well as the Joan St Leger Lindbergh Charitable Trust, Strauss & Co, and other incredibly valuable project partners, we are taking the Association for Visual Arts to the next level.
As you know, the AVA Gallery is an NPO with Public Benefit status, managed by a Board that is nominated and elected annually at its Annual General Meeting. The board is divided into sub-committees in order to affect the smooth running of the institution. The Selection Committee adjudicates proposals for exhibitions at the AVA.
We are inviting for proposals from artists, curators, galleries and other art institutions for our exhibition schedule 2018. Application forms are available from our Facebook page from 8 June onwards, or in hard copy or digital format at the gallery. Deadline for submission: 5 August 2017.
Short term, we are calling for art work for the following group exhibitions:
MEMBERS EXHIBITION 2017 is an uncurated exhibition, salon style, scheduled to open on 29 June 2017. Paid-up members are welcome to submit one art work, max. size 100 x 100cm. The gallery can install up to 150 art works and will operate on a first-come-first-serve basis.
UNDER 18s ONLY is an exhibition that encourages collecting art from an early age onwards. It will take place in the AVA’s Mezzanine Gallery from 15 July till 12 August in conjunction with the AVA PhotoFocus 2017. A crowd funding campaign is in the pipeline to seek support from parents, uncles and grannies who may be keen to introduce children to art collecting. AVA seeks from you: a “ready to hang” work in the medium of photography that can sell for R3 000 or less. Deadline: 1 July 2017.
