ArtThrob provides open, incisive and insightful commentary on South African art. We are committed to art criticism, to the written form and the importance of reflective text in art, and we havefulfilled this commitment for twenty years. We are also committed to paying our writers, so that they can continue to do the awesome work that they do. ArtThrob is a non-profit, and the majority of our budget goes towards paying writers.
ArtThrob is free, and will always remain free.
We are offering a subscription to help us maintain our commitment, while providing benefits to our loyal readers. ArtThrob is funded by selling editions of prints generously donated by some of South Africa’s top artists. Our editions programme has emphasised important work by important artists at an affordable price. Our new subscriptions are making these prints more accessible, with big discounts and a payment plan.
How it works:

When you have enough in your account, you can purchase a print. Or if you are impatient, you can pay in the balance.
You also get a big discount.
The benefit to you is great art, at a discounted rate and affordable monthly payments. You also get to support our ongoing commitment to art criticism and art writers in South Africa.
